Former college coeds, Katherine Holmes, Professor Maria Wakefield-Brooks, Paulette Roy, Vera Sharpe and Vivian Sinclair, Ed.D are ‘Fabulously Forty-Five’. Their friendship is an endearing account of women who rejoice in each other’s happiness or help confront the many challenges of being a single female, a wife, a mother, a sister, a sistah and a best friend.

Every five years, the second week in July, they plan their vacation. This year’s getaway is an occasion to escape from mundane routines. The retreat combines the tranquility of relaxing at a spa resort in Sedona, Arizona, followed by the excitement of Sin City. During the span of seven days, they share stories about their joys and accomplishments, physical ailments or emotional issues. Daily unpretentious chit-chat about ‘back in the day’ is a reminder of why their bond has lasted more than three decades. In the evenings, the get-together is their chance to boast about intimate and sensual pleasures.

An abundance of laughter and the probability of a quarrel, or two, is expected. What is unexpected is the face-to-face encounter and discovery of Maria’s husband’s secret life. The shocking truth resolves the issue of why he acts indifferent towards her. Enraged by his deception, Maria plots her revenge – Katherine, Paulette, Vera and Vivian rally to support the endeavor.

The ‘Fabulously Forty-Five’ girlfriends chronicle a mishmash of brave and apprehensive situations. Their relationship promotes the values of trust and respect. The ladies whose lives evolve in “Laughter in July” lovingly endorses the significance of substituting tears with laughter.
