In the tradition of the comics of B. Kliban, Gary Larson and Alfred E. Neuman, “Dennis Righter’s Fauxtography” is a comic strip photo book with his “Fauxtos” the joy, and the captions the laughs.
The self-described “Oddist” has traveled around the country and assembled a fabulous collection of head scratching Americana, State Fair drama, stunning beauty, and hometown oddities.
Righter spent his career as a singer/musician, teacher, jingle producer and advertising executive. In 1998 he got his first camera and started taking digital pictures of the things in his life that amused him.
He says, “I spent my whole life perfecting every detail of music, but here I was taking pictures. I was not a real Photographer, but a FAUXtographer, (not having a clue what an F stop or shutter speed were or how to even “FauxCus” my brother’s Nikon F4). When sharing my pictures with friends, I felt compelled to add a sparkling comment to avoid the “boring in-law slideshow factor”. My email and social media was buzzing with requests for more! Thousands of giggles later here I am sharing the cool moments I’ve seen.”
Although Righter humbly refers to himself as a “Faux”-tographer this is more of a marketing hook than truth. (It is more accurate that he started as an amateur street photographer.) Dennis Righter has an eye of a gifted artist and the insight of a finely developed humorist. His pictures dwell in the world of recycled happenstance and he assembles them with a vision that is quite uniquely his own, to the delight of all readers!
