The zampognaro (Shepherd with bagpipe) is a new introduction to the Willow Tree Nativity. The bagpipe is an ancient pastoral instrument played by shepherds and farmers for thousands of years and is used in many cultures to celebrate the nativity. In present day Italy, the zampognaro plays the Novena, the nine days leading up to Christmas…a celebration and announcement of the birth of Christ.

GraceAnn I always add to my Demadaco nativity when new pieces become available. This lovely piece first right in with all the other characters.
Another fantastic Willow Tree figurine. Zampognaro is a fantastic addition to our Nativity Scene set. His story is equally interesting. These are my extra words.
