I am a mom, and I am a woman with Asperger’s. This book is about the way those two facets of my identity have collided to make the two years since my son’s birth the most joyful period of my life so far. And yet when I look at other parents with children two years old and under, I am dismayed to notice a lack of the same joy. People are frazzled; they are exasperated; they are exhausted; and they are often waiting for things to “get better” in later years of child-rearing.
Perhaps the particular Aspie way in which I approach parenting has something to do with my experience to the contrary, both when it comes to the tricks I use to stay organized, and the resulting exuberance with which I raise my son each day. If that’s the case, then I want to share all I have learned in the past two years with other parents of young children.
There is no secret code, just a toolbox that has worked for me. My hope is that, in sharing these tools with you, you too can achieve that joy.
