good quality, good value, some rare stuff Treeline Films (Now called Mill Pond Films) has swept together some interesting Public Domain features and shorts in this, another of their 50 movie megapacks. Eight of the 50 movies (and an additional two short subject collections) are rarely seen low budget musicals from the '40s featuring all African - American casts. A couple of them are shows filmed at the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem. I am enjoying watching the other features, which range in quality but are generally pretty good - I'd rate them a 7 or 8 out of 10. Mill Pond's marketing philosophy (like that of Platinum Disc Corp.) is to offer boxed sets of older films figuring there's going to be enough titles in them which you (and I) will want to see. I'm glad I bought this set, along with some of their other megapacks. Sure, it duplicates some of the PD titles I already have, but in most cases the quality of the Mill Pond titles is better than the Alpha, Treasure Chest or other low cost DVD distributor's titles. If you are nit picky on having the highest quality, stick to regular "studio releases". If you want to see some highly entertaining features most studios have forgotten about, and can live with spliced and scuffed films, try one of the Mill Pond 50 movie megapacks!
