Jealousy is the enemy of happiness + More Recaps Thank you amazin' Amazon Vine program for the opportunity to review an ARC of which is a great easy-to-understand book on "Now Let's Get Happy!" Here are some recaps to help you decide if this is the book for you:Whether or not you are aware of it, you probably have some latent belief in the myth that more money will lead to greater happiness. Without a solid foundation in happiness, increased prosperity can actually lessen your overall happiness. Living your purpose leads to happiness; profit alone does not. People experience loss more intensely than they experience gain. The economy runs on materialism. Materialism runs on the myth that more money and more possessions equal more happiness. At the beginning of each week, set a happiness goal level. Check in with yourself a few times each day to see how happy you are. Keep a record of your happiness level and compare your average to your weekly goal. Get a clear mental picture of what your life will be like when you are significantly happier. Hold this image in your mind as often as possible. Find a happiness buddy who wants both of you to become happier. Check in with him or her daily. When you think you are happy, you are happy. When you separate your thoughts from your ego, you liberate yourself to be happy. When you take control of your thinking, you can choose to think happy thoughts. When you cease to rail against other people and begin to think of them as Sacred Clowns, you release resentment and find happiness. When you accept that you will always have challenges and that they exist to keep you actively engaged and growing, you have found the firs step to sustainable higher levels of happiness.Your thoughts come from your words but your words impact your thoughts. Remember the magic word "Abracadabra" and "I have created through my speech?" Pray affirmatively using the acronym ACT: Acknowledge the presence of the divine, Claim a positive outcome and Give thanks. Speak positive statements to yourself that are Personal, Present, Positive and Powerful. When people pay you a compliment, accept their gift by saying thank you.Put yourself on a positivity diet. Listen to only upbeat and inspiring songs and watch positive TV shows and movies. Take the "expressway to happiness." Express what you are grateful for with a gratitude journal and speak aloud what you are grateful for throughout the day. Focus on the box top of your life. Invest a minute or so each morning to review your vision of yourself living a happy life. Make a plan every morning to do something nice for someone. Remember: Good Deed x Anticipation = Happiness. Wish everyone well. Affirm happiness for everyone, especially those you feel don't deserve it.Notice what cues cause a decrease in your level of happiness, and begin to develop new triggers. Consider how you might have felt rewarded in the past from having a low happiness level. Notice when you habitually respond to cues with routines that take your mood down, and resolve to practice new routines that keep your happiness level high. Whenever something cues you causing you to feel unhappy, practice your ABCDs. Do this every time you feel a negative emotional reaction until it becomes automatic. Create a clear vision of your happier life by investing 20 minutes daily in future journaling. Develop a craving for happiness. A couple of times each day, read the list of rewards that come as side benefits of cultivating a higher level of happiness. You can't be out of integrity and truly be happy, because you will have subtle feelings of fear that you will be caught or that others will cheat you - bot of which negate happiness. Afford everyone you come in contact with the same fair treatment you would extend to a beloved family member. Cease to excuse your shady dealings with "rational lies." Speak the truth at all times or remain silent. Don't embellish your accomplishments; when you do, your attempts to inflate your importance in the eyes of others diminishes your self-importance, which lowers your level of happiness. You are hard-wired for happiness. Destiny is an ideal port that you can miss if you don't intentionally sail toward it. Destiny requires your action, whereas fate is inevitable. Begin to save the word "happy" for use only in declaring your state of being. For things that bring you pleasure, use the word "pleased" instead. Remember that to "want" something means to attest to your belief that you don't have it. Cease to want to be happy. Affirm that you are happy instead. Happiness is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Your destiny of happiness is as close as your claiming that you have already arrived.I really enjoyed reading...

A little more specific than your average happiness book Oh, I've read the "happy" books before, full of lots of positivity and vague advice on improving that most perky of human qualities. Granted, they all have something to offer, especially if one goes in with a willingness to learn. But "Happy This Year" was one that stood out to me. Was it full of positivity? Yes. But what impressed me was just how specific Bowen was in dispersing his advice. This was more than what happiness is and is not (though that is included). This was full of specific tips and activities to help develop habits conducive to happiness. So the cherry on top is what so many of the other happiness books have: exuberant writing and feel-good thoughts. All very nice, especially combined with real information. For those who like science, Bowen has included a nice assortment of studies and facts on happiness.Yes, there are plenty of happiness books out there, but I found this one had a little something extra.

Wonderful Book! Any book that espouses positivity gets an A+ in my book!To give you an idea of what you will be getting in this book, there are chapters on "Can't Buy Me Happiness", "You>Happy", "Thoughts of Happiness", "Words of Happiness", "Actions of Happiness", "Habits of Happiness", etc. Get the picture? Each chapter goes into depth about positive changes you can make to be more happy. You will learn to align your thoughts, words and actions so they create the habits, character and destiny of happiness, according to the book description, and that description is entirely right-on.I really like the advice and instruction this book offers. If you are tired of your negative, unhappy outlook, this book can really be helpful. Highly recommended.
