Read this book... please... SHOW ME THE FUNNY has a great concept. Give a bunch of wildly successful comedy writers an idea -- the same idea and see how they run with it. They're all different, all hilarious and a blast to read. The authors, writers themselves, clearly revere their subjects. And we, the readers, are the lucky ones to be able to actually watch the different stories unravel. It looks so easy -- but it's not. You can't learn how to be funny -- really -- but it's inspiring to read how the ones born with the gift play it out. Davis and Desberg knocked it out of the park. This is a unique -- and utterly fantastic book. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Genome of Funny If there were a way to image the humor in a comedy writer's brain the result would look like Show Me The Funny. The book based on one comedic challenge given to a group of famous Hollywood comedy writers, allows the reader to "listen in" via the transcribed stream of consciousness interviews of comedy greats such as Walter Bennett, Peter Casey, Phil Rosenthal and bunch of others. Here they cobble together using speculation, imagination, autobiography and moments of humiliation, the flesh over the bones of Desberg's and Davis' pop-quiz challenge. The fact that these writers had no preparation prior to interview is the most revealing and fascinating aspect of the book. A real revelation of the comedic-creative process. Fabulous read for any writer, artist, or covert jokesters. Best quote:" Our laughter gives us a chance to be one step removed from drama"---Walter Bennett.
